Reviewing the best cordless stick vacuums from Dyson, Vorwerk, Miele & Co. (in 2021)
Cordless Vacuums
    Test Winner

    Dyson Dyson V11 Absolute Extra

    Dyson Dyson V11 Absolute Extra

It’s our winner. It impresses with its strong suction power and innovative features.

The Dyson v11 Absolute Extra is a premium cordless vacuum.

Dyson brought the suction performance of its V-series to the next level with the V11. On top of that, they also equipped it with innovative technology, a practical display and an exchangeable battery.

Dyson V11 Absolute Extra - Test Winner 2020

The latest model from Dyson is also the best. Dyson continuously improves its devices, and the most recent model from 2020 has a surprise in stock for us.

Now you can click out the battery of the device and put in a charged one. You can double up the runtime with a few simple steps.

The Dyson V11 Absolute with a replaceable battery

    Tops of the Dyson V11

    Battery Life

The battery life is about 60 minutes, which is the best runtime among Dyson's cordless vacuums. It should be more than enough for most households.

You can even extend or double the runtime thanks to the click system.

    New and Smart

Dyson equipped the V11 with a practical LCD screen. The display helps to monitor the device and shows useful information.

The new LCD display of the Dyson V11

    Intelligent Adjustment of Suction Power

The new Dyson V11 recognises the surface and adjusts the suction power accordingly. That improves the cleaning performance and prolongs the battery life, as it saves battery power.

    Exceptional Suction Power

The V11 brought the most powerful suction to the table of all the devices that we tested. The suction power was so strong that we removed more dirt from the carpet than we had spread.

The suction power of the 2020 model is even at 220 AW in boost mode.

Which Dyson V11 from 2020 is the best?

There are currently 3 variants of Dyson V11 from 2020 on the market:

    • Dyson V11 Extra
    • Dyson V11 Extra Pro and
    • Dyson V11 Extra +
    • Dyson V11 Outsize

The difference between the first three is only in the delivery scope.

Attention: Please always compare the current prices, as Dyson often changes the offers.

    The Dyson V11 Outsize

However, the Outsize has a couple of innovations in stock:

As the name suggests, it has a different size. The dirt container has a capacity of 1.2 l, which is almost 500 ml larger than before.

The floor brush is also 25 % wider.

Thanks to these features, you’ll be done much faster if you clean with the Outsize ☺ It’s also particularly suitable for larger areas.

Which Dyson V11 is your best choice?

We recommend the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra (2020)

    1. For all those who have to vacuum a lot of hard floors because it includes the soft floor nozzle. That cleaner head does a great job when cleaning hard floors.
    2. For all those who have many different floor types because the Absolute Extra’s Torque-Drive floor nozzle of the V11 comes in very handy here.

Only the Extra Pro has even more features, like the docking station for storage. But YOU have to dig a little deeper into your pocket for that.

We recommend the Dyson V11 Outsize

For all those who have to clean larger areas and want to save some time.

Note: We asked Dyson and found out that the Outsize is only available for about 3 months on the German market.

    To the offer

What is a cordless vacuum and why would I need it?

The main difference between cordless vacuums and conventional vacuums is that they no longer need a cord. You just have to charge the batteries, and then you’re good to go.

That makes brooms already very much redundant because you can clean much more conveniently with a cordless vacuum these days.

The best devices already do a great job cleaning every dirt type and achieve excellent cleaning results.

Can cordless vacuums replace conventional vacuums?

It’s been a battle for quite a few years now: conventional corded vacuums vs modern cordless vacuums.

Many people who want to get a new vacuum face the question whether they should buy a conventional device or give modern technology a try.

People are creatures of habit and many still use old corded devices because they’re not sure whether a modern cordless vacuum can keep up with the old ones. They continue to put up with the well-known problems and disadvantages and torment themselves with tangled cords and dusty, expensive bags.

The good news is: you don’t have to put up with this anymore!

Cordless vacuums are much better than their reputation these days. Most of their weaknesses, such as insufficient battery life or poor suction power, are no longer an issue with good devices.

The cordless devices from Dyson and Bosch left their wired competitors in the dust - no pun intended! - when Germany's official product testing institute put all these devices through the wringer.

We think that the advantages of cordless vacuums clearly outweigh the disadvantages. That’s why we’d always go with a cordless vacuum instead of a corded one.

    Advantages of cordless vacuums

Why are cordless vacuums becoming more and more popular? There are many reasons.

    Advantages at a Glance

    • Comfortable
    • Easy handling
    • Space saving storage
    • Versatile in use
    • 2-in-1 function, both cordless stick vacuum and handheld vacuum cleaner
    • Low follow-up costs
    • Wireless
    • Bagless
    • Environmentally friendly

Most people probably won’t count vacuum cleaning to their favourite activities. You have to deal with problems like the cables being too short, the cables get tangled, the bag is full, the vacuum falls over and so on on a regular basis.

This won’t be the case anymore once you are the proud owner of a modern, bagless, cordless vacuum.

Why are cordless vacuum cleaners more convenient?

You can walk comfortably from room to room and won’t have to worry about tangled cables. Not even stairs can bother you anymore.

In the past, you usually always ran out of vacuum bags when you needed a new one...

...that's also not an issue anymore. Most cordless vacuums come with handy dust containers that you can empty.

    Space-saving storage

Most cordless vacuum cleaners come with a practical wall mount.

When you're done vacuuming, you can put it in the corner or hang it on the wall to save space. The slim designs also help to save space.

If you don't necessarily want to drill holes in the wall for your cordless vacuum, you can also get a practical stand. You can usually also store all the accessories at the so-called "charging dock".

    Versatility: 2-in-1 function

The delivery scope of cordless vacuums includes many accessories that increase the possible uses of the device.

You can convert modern cordless stick vacuums into compact cordless handheld vacuums.

This way, you can easily vacuum the car or clean furniture and other objects.

It’s a real improvement of flexibility!

    Follow-up costs

Since most modern cordless devices are bagless, you save a lot of follow-up costs. Don’t underestimate the expenses for vacuum bags - they add up over the years.

You also won’t have to buy new filters, which is also very good for your wallet.

Bagless and filterless vacuums are not only good for your wallet: It also avoids unnecessary waste and protects the environment.

Where do cordless vacuums still have room for improvement?

How long is the battery life of cordless vacuums?

Cordless vacuums have runtimes of up to 90 minutes. That’s sufficient for thoroughly cleaning an average-sized flat.

Once the battery is empty, you can’t remove any more dirt.

Therefore, the operating time is a critical factor in cordless vacuums. But that’s not an issue with the top models.

You should definitely pay attention to the battery life when buying.

Tip: Check test reports to see if the battery life is sufficient at the power mode you need for cleaning.

Some of the battery runtimes are enormous according to the manufacturer. However, if you take a closer look, you will notice that the times apply to a cleaning mode that is hardly sufficient for cleaning.

That’s where our reviews come in: We sort out the rotten eggs among the cordless vacuums.

    Cleaning performance

The cleaning performance of many models leaves a lot to be desired. That’s why we strongly recommend:

Read test reports and reviews beforehand!

This way you can avoid making a bad purchase decision.

How to compare cordless vacuums like a pro

Choosing the right cordless vacuum cleaner is an important decision because your choice will determine how comfortably and efficiently you can clean your home for years to come.

An important advantage of cordless vacuums is that the devices are always ready to go (no untangling of cables etc.).

That’s also why we use the cordless vacuum much more often. We use it several times a day.

Therefore, you should be careful when buying.

Here’s an overview on what you should look out for when buying a cordless vacuum.

Quick Overview: What you need to know before buying

    • Not all cordless vacuums are the same. The cordless devices differ greatly in quality and, above all, cleaning performance. An independent test can help you to avoid making a bad decision.
    • Battery life is a critical factor. Good cordless vacuums have a runtime between 40 and 90 minutes.
    • The vacuums are flexible, but there are devices that work better on one floor type than another. What do you need?
    • What’s your budget?

Which cordless handheld vacuum fits best to my needs? 10 tips for your purchase decision

These are categories that are very important when buying a cordless vacuum:

    • Design
    • Cleaning performance vs. suction power
    • Accessories
    • How does the vacuum clean (features)
    • What’s the handling like
    • Maintenance, follow-up costs, etc.
    • Price-performance ratio
    • Volume
    • Warranty
    • Sustainability

#Tip 1: Design: What types of cordless vacuums are there?

If you are wondering whether it’s worth buying a cordless vacuum, you should ask yourself what you want to clean with it.

There are devices that are very suitable and those that are less suitable, depending on the area of application.

These are the main four types:

    Cordless hand vacuum cleaner

These devices are small and handy. They are only suitable for smaller tasks, such as quickly removing crumbs from the couch.

    Cordless vacuum cleaner

...Sometimes also called stick vacuum or cordless stick vacuum.

These household helpers work best when cleaning the floor. So if you only want to clean floors, this might be the way to go.

    2-in-1 cordless vacuum

You can convert these devices from a stick vacuum to a compact handheld vacuum in just a few steps. With this addition, you have many more possible uses and maximum flexibility for the cordless vacuum cleaner.

That's why we always recommend buying a 2-in-1 device.

    3-in-1 function

There is also the 3-in-1 function from Miele. In addition to the two conversion functions described above, you can also convert the Miele Triflex HX1 so that the power unit sits directly on the brush.

This ensures that the centre of gravity is lower and you can vacuum more comfortably. We’ll talk more about that in our review.

4-in-1 function? Stick vacuum with wiping function

The development is progressing all the time: some manufacturers are now "experimenting" with wiping functions in addition to the "vacuum function".

We’re calling it “experimenting” for now because this technology is still in its early stages.

We achieved good cleaning results with only a few devices in our tests (for example, the Vorwerk Kobold VB100 review).

Some manufacturers also advertise the broom function...

...they probably mean that the vacuum cleaner will replace the classic broom in the future. However, this seems a bit far-fetched from today's perspective.

What do you want to clean with the device?

Since there are different types of devices, which brings us to the next question: what do you need the device for most.

If you have different floors or rooms, it’s worth buying a cordless device because you no longer have to plug the vacuum cleaner in and out whenever you move to the next room.

If you have mainly carpeted floors, make sure that the cordless vacuum is great at cleaning carpets. Some models have a harder time with carpets.

Do you have many hard floors? Then you should choose a device that is suitable for that floor type.

The Dyson v11 Absolute, for example, comes with an extra attachment for hard floors and thus has an excellent performance here.

Do you have different floor types in your home? Most homes have both hard floors and carpets.

Then you should make sure that the devices perform well on all surfaces when buying.

That's why we at Smart Home Fox always test the devices on different floor types and with different kinds of dirt.

#Tip 2: Accessories and extras: How to add value to your device

The accessories can be decisive when buying a cordless vacuum. Manufacturers are very innovative, so the delivery scopes vary greatly.

Good accessories can significantly increase versatility in use.

That's why it's worth taking a close look at the offers. This way you can also save money. Sometimes you get a lot more accessories for a few more pounds.

Attention: If you buy the accessories afterwards, they are often more expensive.

The most important accessories at a glance:

The manufacturers always come up with new accessories for their cordless vacuums.

After all, it's a way to set yourself apart from the competition.

    That’s great for customers...

...more accessories mean that we can use the household helper more flexibly.

Many of the gadgets included are quite practical, some are very useful and some are superfluous.

We will present some highlights from our tests in the following.

This is the standard delivery scope

First of all, there is a basic equipment that should always be included in the delivery scope.

    The Standard Floor Nozzle

The standard floor nozzle definitely belongs to that category.

You use this cleaning head for vacuuming the floor. It works great on carpets and hard floors.

It’s a nice extra if the floor brush also has LED lighting.

    The standard floor nozzle

    The Wall Bracket

To save space when storing the cordless vacuum, you need a wall mount. You don’t just store the device there, you can charge it at the same time.

    The practical wall bracket

There are also so-called floor docking stations. They have the same function as a wall mount. You just won't have to drill holes in the wall and you can easily move them to another place.

Another alternative to the wall mount is a battery vacuum cleaner with a standing function. You can also store these self-standing devices in a space-saving way.

    The Crevice Tool

    The crevice nozzle

The crevice nozzle is another must-have.

With this practical cleaner head, you can get into every crack and crevice. You can easily remove crumbs and dust between the couch cushions.

    The Multi Tool
    Bristles extended
The multi tool with soft bristles

    Bristles retracted
The multi tool with retracted bristles

The multi tool is also a real asset.

You can extend the bristles to have a soft attachment for dusting and vacuuming objects.

Once you retract the bristles, you get an attachment with which you can tackle coarse dirt on robust surfaces.

    Really practical extras

    The soft roller

    The soft floor nozzle

The Soft Roller or Fluffy Head comes in very handy if you want to clean hard floors such as laminate, parquet or vinyl.

The brush glides easily over the hard floor and picks up dirt better.

#Tip 3: Suction power vs. cleaning performance - how many watts does a cordless vacuum need?

The manufacturers try to advertise the performance of their cordless vacuums with different values.

    They often use Watts.

    Airwatt from Dyson

Dyson has even invented its own measurement and called it Airwatt. This value shows the ratio of cleaning performance to suction power with a certain opening. So if you change the size of the opening, you get a different suction power.

However, the (air) watt figure does not necessarily have anything to do with the real cleaning performance. They are somewhat relative. There are cordless vacuum cleaners with fewer watts that achieve better cleaning performance than others with more watts.

Extra tip: When making a purchase decision, don't let the watt or airwatt specifications (or similar) for suction power confuse you. Instead, take a look at real vacuum cleaner reviews and comparisons.

Realistic reviews of cordless vacuums and tests under "extreme conditions" are much more informative than manufacturers' specifications.

You’ll see which types of dirt and on which types of floor the device can handle.

#Tip 4: How well does the cordless vacuum clean?

The cleaning performance depends on different factors.

How many power settings do I have and how powerful are they?

Or another example: The most modern devices have an electric brush that rotates with the help of its own motor and thus transports the dirt better into the pipe.

Some of the models, for example the Dyson V11 Absolute, can even recognise the surface and adjust the suction power depending on the floor type.

These and similar features can influence your purchase decision. If you look at the cordless devices from this aspect, you can often identify the leaders in technology and find the best cordless vacuum.

    #Tip 5: The Handling

The handling of the devices often differs greatly.

The simpler and the more user-friendly, the better!

Many manufacturers already implemented straightforward processes.

The conversion to a cordless hand vacuum

You can convert the device from a cordless stick vacuum to a handheld cordless vacuum with a few simple steps, for example.

A frequent question also is: Is the power button lockable?

    The power button

With some devices you have to press down the power button permanently, with others you can lock the button. For some, it’s a question of comfort when cleaning and they want to have a lockable button.

However, the disadvantage of a lockable button is that the battery runs out faster. Here you have to weigh up what’s more important to you.

    Vacuuming under the furniture

Dust tends to accumulate under furniture. Therefore, it’s all the more important that you can get underneath furniture with a vacuum cleaner to remove it.

Not every cordless vacuum is suitable for this.

Note that some cordless vacuums have the motor at the bottom, for example the Bosch Athlet. This shifts the centre of gravity of the device further to the bottom and makes vacuuming easier. However, these devices don’t fit under the couch.

If you choose one of these devices, make sure that the delivery scope includes a flexible hose. Then you can easily use it to vacuum under the sofa.

How heavy is a cordless vacuum?

The premium models weigh about 3 kg. With this weight, you can comfortably vacuum without any problems.

You’ll reduce the weight by another 1 kg when you convert it into a cordless hand vacuum.

Weight can also play a role when buying. Some models are quite heavy. If your arm exhausts too fast during vacuuming, you won’t be happy about your purchase.

We’re also rating the weights of different models in our reviews.

The manoeuvrability of the cordless devices depends on various features.

Some devices have small rollers on the floor nozzle, others have small pads so that they glide better over the hard floor.

In addition, a joint between the suction tube and the floor brush usually ensures that you can move the vacuum around the corner at a 90 degree angle.

Floor nozzle with joint and roller

#Tip 6: The maintenance of handheld battery vacuums

Maintenance can also be a decisive factor when buying. You surely don't want to spend more time than necessary on your household helper.

    Maintenance in detail

The maintenance of cordless vacuums usually consists of the following tasks:

    • Cleaning the (HEPA) filter
    • Emptying and cleaning the dirt/dust container
    • Cleaning the brush
    • Maintenance of the battery

    HEPA filter and long-lasting filter

The HEPA (particulate air) filters are a real asset for cleaning because they filter out even the tiniest particles. They neutralise odours and remove bacteria from the air.

Cordless vacuums come with long-lasting filters, so the main part of maintenance is cleaning them.

It doesn’t take long to clean the filter. You just have to remove the filter and tap it out or wash it with most devices.

Caution: Please follow the manufacturer's instructions. You can’t wash every filter.

    Emptying the dust container

The emptying function of the device should be an absolutely essential factor in your purchase decision. There are huge differences in the dirt containers.

Each manufacturer comes up with their own system. Most of them may look relatively similar, but they don’t work equally well.

With some devices, you can empty the dirt container with pinpoint accuracy; with others, not all contents will end up in the dustbin.

The Dyson V11, for example, has a very good emptying function (Dyson V11 test report). You can easily get the dirt into the dustbin, thanks to the vertical arrangement of the dirt container and the slider.

    Emptying the Dyson V11
    Emptying the Dyson V11

Others even use conventional bags (Vorwerk VB100 Test).

    Cordless vacuum cleaner with bag
Changing the bag on the Vorwerk VB100
Attention: Especially allergy sufferers should be careful here. They should opt for a cordless vacuum with a very well-functioning "emptying function".
The size of the dirt container

Not just the emptying function plays an important role. The size of the dust container matters, too.

If the container is small, you have to empty it more often. That's why we always prefer larger dust containers.

However, if the dirt container is too large, the device can quickly become bulky.

    Cleaning the dust container

There are good and rather cumbersome solutions for cleaning. The Dyson V11 has a very good system for cleaning, for example.

You can easily remove the dirt container in one step. Then you can clean it under running water.

    Removable dirt container

    Cleaning the brush

You have to remove the floor nozzle from time to time and free it from pet hair, long human hair and threads. You can use a small sharp knife or the included tool for this.

Removing hair from the floor nozzle

    The maintenance of the battery

The main task here is, of course, charging the battery. The devices have powerful lithium-ion batteries and the charger comes with them.

Tip: Make sure that the battery is replaceable - for the worst-case scenario.

The batteries of cordless vacuums are long-lasting. If the battery breaks, you can easily buy a replacement battery on the internet.

Some models also come with an extra battery.

How long is the charging time of cordless vacuums?

The charging time is between 3 and 5.5 hours.

In our tests, we saw that the battery charging time of cordless vacuums varies with every device. The charging time mainly depends on the capacity of the energy source.

    #Tip 7: Soundcheck of a cordless vacuum

    Vacuums are noisy...

...the cordless vacuum cleaners are no exception.

But since some devices are louder than others, the soundcheck is an integral part of our test. We use a volume meter to determine how many decibels the different power settings have.

We developed a noise scale especially for this purpose. You can see what the volume is comparable to on it.

The Smart Home Fox Volume Scale

That’s how we determine the noise no-goes so you can be sure that the noise is as minimal as possible when cleaning.

    #Tip 8: Returns and warranty

The guarantee is of course regulated by law in Great Britain.

However, if you look closely when buying, you’ll see that many manufacturers also have their own systems to extend the warranty.

Trial periods are also quite common. You can buy a vacuum cleaner, test it for a certain period of time and if you aren’t satisfied, you can return it and get your money back.

Dyson, for example, offers a 30-day warranty at the moment (more information on Dyson cordless vacuums review.)

#Tip 9: What about the environment?

More and more customers care about sustainability. How do we want to leave the world to our children?

If this is important to you, then you can also consider the sustainability aspect when buying.

Many companies already claim sustainability as their motto.

Unfortunately, there are also many manufacturers who haven’t put a focus on this point yet.

To buy a sustainable product, you should consider the following:

    • High quality
    • What is the packaging?
    • Shipping
    • Are there any spare parts?
    • Where does the production take place?

High quality - How long does a cordless vacuum last?

Of course, the lifespan of your new vacuum cleaner depends on the quality.

When it comes to quality, there are huge differences. There are so many companies that produce cordless vacuums these days.

Unfortunately, many devices don’t meet our quality standards.

Therefore, you should make sure that you buy a high-quality vacuum, which also ensures that the device lasts for a long time.

    Are there any spare parts?

It’s also important that there are spare parts for your device when buying. Otherwise, you will either have to send it in or throw it away if it’s broken.

This wouldn’t be good for your wallet and also not for the environment.

    What is the packaging like?

Some manufacturers put great emphasis on not using plastic for their packaging.

This is also an interesting aspect when buying, considering the huge waste problem worldwide.

Where does the production take place?

You can also take a look where manufacturers produce their devices and that it’s not in countries where precarious working conditions prevail.

In other words, make sure that they don’t make use of child labour or exploit people.

    The Shipping

Shipping is also important in this context. For example, some manufacturers use delivery services that make sure they deliver their packages in a CO2-neutral way.

#Tip 10: The budget: Treat yourself to a good cordless 2 in 1 vacuum.

People usually use a vacuum for 10 years before they have to replace it.

Since we use the vacuum almost every day, small problems can become tremendous in the long run:

If the device is of low quality, you may need a new one soon because it breaks down easily.

If the cleaning performance is bad, your flat remains dirty or you have to vacuum it even more frequently.

If the battery is too weak, you can’t clean your home in one go because you have to charge the battery in between.

...So it's better to choose the model that fits best to your needs right away.

Plan your budget: How much does a cordless vacuum cost?

There are cordless vacuums in every price segment. But how much do I have to pay to get a decent device?

You can roughly divide the devices into three segments:

    • 0 - 200 euros: Cheap cordless vacuums often don’t deliver what they promise. The battery performance is often poor and the suction power is only sufficient for cleaning light dirt.
    • 200 to 400 euros: In the mid-price segment, you can find a few of the better devices. If you know exactly what you want and inform yourself well, you can get a decent vacuum here.
    • From 400 euros: Quality has its price and you will find the premium models in this price range.

These are the top devices that leave nothing to be desired. You can find devices from Dyson, Vorwerk or Miele here.

Tip: You can often spot discontinued models or special offers in the mid-price segment. You won't get the latest model, but you'll get high quality at a good price.

What is the price-performance ratio of cordless vacuums? Purchase vs. follow-up costs

Cordless vacuums may seem very expensive at first.

However, you can put the purchase costs into perspective, especially if you made your purchase decision carefully.

    Cordless Vacuum: Long-Lasting Filter

The good devices have powerful, washable filters that you don't have to replace constantly.

This will save a lot of money in the long run.

Tip: If you ever need new filters: If research a bit, you can also find cheap filters from third-party suppliers. You can save another few pounds here.

    Cordless Vacuums: Bagless

Most cordless vacuums don’t have a bag these days.

You can empty the practical dust containers directly over the dustbin without any problems. This works great with most appliances.

Since you won’t need any bags anymore, you save a lot of money.

It's also a real bonus for the environment, as you produce much less waste.

    Repairs and Spare Parts

Battery vacuums are cheaper in the long runIn our experience, the devices are not prone to malfunctions, but if something breaks, you can easily replace the parts of high-quality devices - from Dyson, Miele, Vorwerk, Tineco and so on.

You can also get all spare parts if you choose a device from a good manufacturer.

So your cordless vacuum will last a long time.

In our reviews, we take a closer look at the price-performance ratio and give feedback on each device at the end of each review.

    Cordless vacuums for carpets

There are so many cordless vacuums that you can choose from, and some are particularly well suited for cleaning carpets.

As you probably know, fine dust and sand settles deep in the carpet.

Therefore, you need a cordless vacuum with very powerful suction to clean it thoroughly.

There are also accessories that are specially designed for cleaning carpets.

An automatic standard brush that can regulate the suction power itself would come in very handy here.

    Cordless vacuum for hard floors

There are also cordless stick vacuums that are better suited for cleaning hard floors.

It’s great if your cordless vacuum has a suction attachment with a soft floor roller. The dirt will be pressed into the soft roller so that the device can pick up the dirt better.

Illuminated nozzles are also very handy here. The LED lighting on the floor nozzle makes it much easier to see dirt on hard floors.

    Battery vacuum for cars

You don’t just have to clean the flat...

...many people probably love to polish and clean their cars and free them from the tiniest particle of dirt.

You need to have the right tools at hand so you can comfortably clean your car.

A powerful cordless vacuum is ideal for this task. You can convert a stick vacuum into a handheld vacuum in no time, carry it to the car and start vacuuming. You won't need a power socket or look for an extension cable. You can get started right away.

Some manufacturers supply suitable gadgets for cleaning the car. Bosch, for example, includes a long flexible crevice nozzle with which you can vacuum between the armrest and seat.

Finally, someone was thinking ahead ;)

    Cordless vacuum for allergy sufferers

Allergy sufferers have a hard time vacuuming. After all, it’s the worst to have direct contact with the nasty dust.

That’s why it’s extremely important for allergy sufferers to pay attention to the emptying function when buying a new cordless vacuum.

It’s surely a matter of taste...

We’d recommend reading reviews to find out which cordless vacuum cleaners have a good emptying function for allergy sufferers.

Another feature that can help is a wiping function....

    Battery-powered vacuum cleaner

More and more suppliers are trying to combine cordless vacuums with a mopping function. That’s how it works: the floor brush vacuums at the front and has a mop at the back that wipes afterwards.

This will also remove fine dust. It works very well for some manufacturers. But it’s more of an "alibi function" with other manufacturers to set themselves apart from the competition.

Robot vacuum as an addition to the handheld stick vacuum

You could also treat yourself to a robot hoover. These little household helpers become more and more popular and already do the daily cleaning in many British households.

Robot hoovers are very efficient in combination with a battery vacuum. Wherever the robot can't reach, you can help out with the cordless vacuum.

Battery vacuums at Stiftung Warentest: Two test winners

Even the Kraut’s our special friends from the mainland ranked our Dyson V11 on the top of all cordless stick vacuums.

We discovered a very interesting review portal from germany. They checked out whether cordless vaccums can compete with conventional hoovers...

...result: The best cordless vacuums make conventional corded vacuums - slowly but surely - redundant.

That’s why Stiftung Warentest (more about…) also took a closer look at a few devices in its 07/2020 issue. We were so excited to check out Stiftung Warentest’s test winner.

Stiftung Warentest came to the same conclusion as we did in our tests: the Dyson V11 is the best cordless vacuum on the market.

The Dyson V11 and the Kobold VB100 cordless vacuum from Vorwerk are on par here and share the first place. Of course, we tested the Vorwerk Kobold VB100 as well (internal link: vorwerk vb100).

Dyson V11 vs Vorwerk Vb100 at Stiftung Warentest

The Dyson V11’s cleaning performance was outstanding in our test. It removed even more than 100% (old residues, despite thorough cleaning before the test) of the sand from our test carpet.

This cordless vacuum has a well-thought-out "dust retention function", which makes it very suitable for allergy sufferers.

The Dyson V11 easily made it to the first place in our cordless vacuum cleaner comparison.

The newer model from 2020 even has a replaceable battery and, thus, scores some extra points for sustainability.

The Vorwerk VB100 also has a powerful suction and comes with well-thought-out accessories.

This “Made in Germany” battery vacuum is also a true lightweight and very quiet.
